Sports are an essential and important aspect of American society; they are indispensible when it comes to their impact on a plethora of public arenas, including economics and the mass media. Sport coincides with community values and political agencies, as it attempts to define the morals and ethics attributed not only to athletes, but the totality of society as a whole. Fans of spectator sports find a reaffirmation of key societal values through sports, as they give meaning to their own lives. “By becoming fans, spectators engage in certain kinds of pleasures, fulfilling their own desires through fetishism, voyeurism, and narcissism

Assignment #4 Instructions:
A warm-up is not Cardiorespiratory Training. It is a warm-up, movement that has a sole purpose to improve blood flow to the entire body and prepare the supporting systems for exercise. Therefore Cardiorespiratory training is a necessary independent component of fitness that must be addressed with the same vigor and assessment precision as a resistance training program. Cardiorespiratory fitness can be improved via a variety of exercise components and modalities, but the similar factor within that exercise is the consistent elevation of heart rate, for an extended period of time, which meets the ACSM’s recommendations for improvement of cardiorespiratory fitness. The elevated heart rate must be a direct result of repeated large muscle contractions, causing the coordination of heart and lungs to produce energy and movement. For this assignment you will measure your personal level of cardiorespiratory fitness. Using the NASM protocols for cardiorespiratory assessment and the attached Labs 3.1-1 through 3.2-3, as criteria for assessment.
Assignment #4 WK6
Describe and list the results of your personal cardio respiratory assessment. Your results should include: all elements listed on the document titled “CPT7_cardio_assessment_template” including your fitness ratings. In your descriiption of your results explain why you think you displayed these fitness rating results. Does your lifestyle contribute to your rating? Why? Why not?
Based on your results and fitness rating, develop a Cardiorespiratory exercise program.
Use the attached Assignment 4 WK6 Template to assist you with layout. Within your assignment use a combination of narrative & any templates charts/graphs that you think are appropriate (see assignment attachments noted within the instructions).

Requirements:
The narrative of your paper should be a minimum of 3 written pages (not including title page and reference page); charts or tables will enhance your project but will not count toward your total page count. Please support the rationale for your thoughts and opinions. Cite the sources of any definitions or ideas that are not your own using appropriate academic sources (minimum of 2 References – required readings as sources are allowed and encouraged).

Formatting:
The writing component must meet all rules of APA formatting (7th edition)
title page
headings: See outline above for heading title ideas
page numbers
in-text citations
reference page
Including the title and reference pages, your entire submission will be no shorter than 5 pages.
**Also, please refer to our APUS Library for help with APA formatting. And the Perdue Owl: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html
Please use your NASM text readings (both in class and via NASM.org), the NASM forms (attached), and any other peer-reviewed/scientific resources you may find as reference material for this assignment. Our APUS Library Search Engines are a good place to begin.
Please refer to the attached rubric for additional details and guidance.
There are several ways to incorporate a Template/Table into your WORD document; a few hints:
If you are unsure of how to do this -the easiest way is to complete your template on one document, then take a screenshot (I use a Mac & the command for screenshot is command+shift+4, which then gets saved as a pic. On a PC, there is often a “print screen” button which actually saves the screenshot to your desktop OR to a clipboard for you to paste in a word doc), open and copy the picture, then paste it into the document in the appropriate spot.
Please refer to the attached rubric for additional details and guidance.

After the successful marketing and public relations campaigns your company created, the local Little League baseball organization has contacted the athletic director about using the University’s facilities for the opening day ceremonies. This is a first for the school, so they have again contracted your company to help them manage the event.
The opening ceremonies include an introduction of the 10 teams in the league, recognition of last year’s champion by the city’s mayor, and the tip-off game between last year’s first and second place finishers. Area dignitaries will attend the ceremonies (you pick them!), and someone will be honored by throwing out the first pitch. Remember your client is located in Mobile, AL.
You need to create an event management plan for the day, which includes a timeline of the day’s activities, location of emergency services, concessions, parking, security, restrooms, etc. Be sure to include handling of the dignitaries.
The attached event planning booklet is a good resource to use in planning your event.

During the term, you should find an organized youth sporting event (must be a competitive game, meet, or match) to attend. The participants in this event should not yet be in junior high school…preferably younger than 12 years old. When dealing with youth sports from a sociological perspective, relationships become the primary focus of attention. As an outsider observing the event, you should take special notice of the topics we’ve covered in class (i.e. parent interaction, the emphasis on competition, etc.), and the following relationships:
• Player – Player (teammates, opponents, on the bench, etc.)
• Coach – Player
• Parents – Players
• Spectators – Players
• Spectators – Coaches
• Spectators – Spectators
• Referees – Players
• Referees – Coaches
• Referees – Spectators
• Coaches – Coaches
While observing, look for the following in the above relationships:
• How often do they interact?
• Who initiates the interaction?
• What is the content of the interaction?
• What is the impact of the interaction on those involved?
• How do players respond to or deal with adult control?
You might also think about the overall phenomenon of youth sports, by considering the following:
• What do players and spectators learn in connection with youth sports?
• Why are the games so important to many people?
• What ideas about masculinity and femininity are highlighted in connection with the sport?
• Do boys/girls attend? What do they do? What do boys/girls do who are not on the field/court? What do players do before, after, and between games?
• What do you think is being learned by the children who are playing? What about the other children in attendance?
• Are there any social dynamics related to social class or race and ethnicity during the event? Is it expensive to play this sport? How is the program and participation funded?
In order to make writing your paper easier, I recommend taking notes during the event which you can refer back to.
After observing the youth sporting event, you should write a 3-4 page paper discussing your observations and reflections on sociological issues within youth sports. As you write the paper, you should follow the below format:
1. Introduction
a. Explain the event you observed. Provide details such as the age, gender, location, sport, etc. of the participants.
b. Provide an introduction and foundation for your observations and reflections. In short, you should provide a “road map” your paper will follow.
2. Observations
a. Discuss what you observed. Be as detailed as possible, giving specific examples and events. Be careful not to over generalize…if you wish to generalize, use specific examples to draw those generalizations.
3. Reflections
a. Discuss your reflections and thoughts about the event. How does what you observed relate back to sociological topics discussed in this course? Did your observations surprise you?
b. Choose at least one of the three theories discussed in Chapter 2 of your text. Then, explain your observations and reflections from that theoretical perspective.
4. Conclusion
a. Provide a brief explanation of what you will take away from this experience.
b. Summarize and conclude your paper.
The Youth Sport Observation Project will be due during Week 6. The rubric below will be utilized in grading the Youth Sport Observation Project:
